NEWSLETTER - February 2009

As this is our first Newsletter for 2009 we would firstly like to thank the children who entered the Christmas colouring and wordsearch competitions, which were run through the club's new website. Prizes were awarded in each category.

Our next event is one for the parents! A Race Night to be held on Saturday, 28th February at the Driffield Town Cricket and Recreation Club from 7.30pm with the first race starting at 8.00pm. Please note that this is a 'fundraising' night and we need your support. This is open to every age group (Adults Only and "Free" Entry) and we hope to see as many parents attending this event as possible. Over past years the club has been able to keep the cost of club membership down because of the support they have received with recent fundraising events and through money donated to the club. Every season the club see the cost of training facilities, equipment etc increase but we have always been able to maintain our membership fee and even last year disposed of match fees. Inevitably fees will increase next season without your support.

A date for your diary is the Club's Tournament weekend to be held this year on Saturday, 6th and Sunday, 7th June at Allotment Lane, Driffield. There will be information shortly on the website and in the April Newsletter - any offer of help will be greatly appreciated please speak to Pat on 01377-217599.

Football Jackets - Any future orders for jackets will be held until Helen has received a minimum order of five. Unfortunately we are not able to order an odd one or two. Sorry for any inconvenience. Please direct your enquiries to Helen on 254462.

Driffield Leisure Centre - We are very pleased to announce that Mr Martin Burniston, Vice-Chairman, has been in communication with the ERYC regarding Corporate Membership for Driffield Junior FC who have confirmed that they can offer us some really good savings for adults and children - as much as a £13.00 per month saving for an adult. For further information please contact Martin on 253443.

We would like to draw parents attention to the fact that from time to time children from various age groups may be lucky enough to be picked for trials and to attend the Hull Development Centre for Leeds United FC. This is a great honour for the club that many of our children are carefully selected and we would like parents to respect that any child/children who are selected are still part of the club and can still train and be selected to play in club matches, as normal, with their age group - as well as enjoy outside training. This is a decision made by the Managers - not the parents. If any parent has any concerns at all please contact the Club Co-Ordinator for the relevant age group (please refer to your Handbook).

One final, but very important, issue is club fines. Over the past few months the club have accrued penalty points because of fines received, and in some cases suspensions, issued for mainly Unsporting Behaviour and in some cases more serious offences. This reflects very badly on the club, which has always maintained a good reputation. The Handbook issued to all players at the start of the season does contain the club's code of conduct for players (and parents!) and perhaps it may be worthwhile 'refreshing' your children and yourselves of these points. Thank you for your co-operation.

Thank you for your continued support and Good Luck to all our Players for the rest of the season!
